About Manastash

Welcome to the heartbeat of CWU's student literary community: Manastash literary journal. As a contributor and/or editor, you'll find that Manastash literary journal is a platform for you to engage with and contribute to the literary community, and a space where your voice can be heard loud and clear. Manastash publishes short stories, poetry, essays, interviews, reviews, and visual art, all by CWU students.

In 1990, Professor Joseph Powell and graduate student Shannon Hopkins launched the first issue. Ever since, students have produced an annual collection of CWU's best student writing and artwork. (All past issues can be found in our archive. Find out how to submit your work to the 36th annual journal here.)

As an editor in Manastash's practicum, ENG 484-485, you'll experience the exhilarating process of selecting, editing, and publishing work that represents the vibrant diversity and talents of your peers. Working as a Manastash editor and designer is also an investment in your career and future: you'll gain experiential knowledge of editing and publishing, relish the camaraderie of making a journal together, forge lifelong connections, and hone critical thinking skills.

Manastash is open for submissions.
